Good Night Oppy at Glasgow Film Theatre
4 – 10 November, 2022
On 24 January 2004, a team of scientists and engineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory watched anxiously as the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity touched down for a planned 90-day mission. Known to the group as ‘Oppy,’ the robot represented years of ingenuity, teamwork, and curiosity. As 90 days came and went, a strange thing happened on the surface of a planet millions of miles away: Oppy exceeded every expectation and delivered so much more.
Featuring animation by Industrial Light & Magic and the voice of Angela Bassett, Good Night Oppy charts Oppy’s unforgettable journey and an indescribable bond that formed as the rover searched for life on Mars…
Paul Gallagher, GFT Programme Manager:
“Why We Love It: ‘Basically a real-life version of WALL-E, this is a very family-friendly documentary that will warm the coldest heart with its vision of optimistic teamwork and exploration. The way the film follows the NASA tech-heads as they build their Mars rovers and send them out on their mission is really touching: we peek into the lives and personalities of each of the team members, making this story of an intrepid little robot one of the most warm, human films of the year.”
