Escape from New York Treasure Hunt Screening18
GFT
Sunday 26 October
In the future of 1997, the US President crashes into Manhattan, now a giant maximum security prison, and is taken hostage by the inmates. The only hope for America, and the world, is the gruff one-eyed loner warrior Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell at his most iconic), who must navigate the mean streets and bring the president back to safety.
In this unique and exciting event, Glasgow Film tasks you with finding the screening by navigating the (not so mean) streets of Glasgow to a top secret off-site venue for a special screening of the classic John Carpenter film.
Event starts at Glasgow Film Theatre, 6pm for an off-site screening at 9pm. Please be aware that the treasure hunt portion of this event will take place outside. It will be necessary for at least one member of each team to be in possession of an Android or iphone device.
Please provide box office with your email address when signing up, as you will be contacted regarding your team (groups of six participants maximum).
FAQs
Do I need to bring a team of 6?
No, but the team cannot be bigger than 6.
Do I really need a smart phone?
Yes, at least one of your team will need an Android, iphone or ipad device. The treasure hunt will use an app to give you clues and questions so a team member will need to have one.
What are the timings of the event?
You will be provided with a starting time, due to capacities we please ask you to arrive at GFT for your allotted starting time, which you will be provided with via email (between 6pm and 7pm).
I only want to watch the film and not do the treasure hunt, can I just buy a ticket for the film?
No, the treasure hunt is designed to be a fun and interactive experience and we would encourage you to take part fully in what will be a great event. As the final location is a secret you’ll have to take part to find out where it is.
I have a disability, can I take part?
The treasure hunt will, for the most part, take place outside in the city centre, and will involve you travelling between a number of locations – the city centre is steep in places. The treasure hunt will take approximately 2 hours. The final venue is fully accessible via ramps and lifts.
If it’s bad weather what happens?
Hopefully the weather will hold out, but be prepared with warm clothes and water-proofs.
What if my team cannot figure out the clues?
The app is designed so that just taking part will allow you to get the next clue. There will be prizes for the teams who get the most answers though! Don’t worry, twenty minutes before the screening starts the location will be revealed, no matter what.
What time should I get to GFT?
You should aim to be here at 6pm. The hunt will take about 2 hours and the screening will start at 9pm – so there’s plenty of time.
Why is it over 18s only, the film is a 15 certificate?
The screening venue is licensed and as such you need to be over 18 to take part.
What if we get lost?
There will be an emergency contact number for you to phone.
Do I have to pay for the App as well?
No, the app is absolutely free.
