On the hottest day of the summer in the Bedford-Stuyvesant district of Brooklyn, Italian-American Sal Fragione opens his pizza parlour in the same way he has for the past 25 years. However, on this day, the simmering racial tensions between Sal’s Italian-American family and the predominately African- American neighbourhood come to the fore as thinly veiled hatred and bigotry explodes into violence. One of Spike Lee’s earliest feature films, Do the Right Thing overflows with creative energy, political relevance and righteous anger. It is recognised not only as one of Lee’s best works, but also as one of the greatest films ever made. Screening on 35mm.
