Before Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror or David Cronenberg entered the Videodrome or Big Brother, Bertrand Tavernier came to Glasgow to film this strikingly prescient futuristic drama.
Ace reporter Roddy (Harvey Keitel) has a camera implanted in his eye to record everything he sees. His job is to capture the last days of the terminally ill Katherine (Romy Schneider) for the viewing pleasure of voyeuristic millions. Refusal to comply is not an option in a cult classic that earned five César nominations and makes atmospheric use of the decaying industrial heartland of late 1970s Glasgow. Also featuring Southsider Robbie Coltrane in his first film role.
