Todd Haynes (I’m Not There , Far from Heaven) returns to the big screen after 8 years away, and this lush adaptation of the groundbreaking Patricia Highsmith novel The Price of Salt makes for a very welcome return indeed. Winning the Best Actress prize at Cannes, Rooney Mara plays Therese, a young shop assistant in 50s New York who tumbles into a passionate affair with a wealthy older woman (Cate Blanchett) on the brink of divorce. ‘An exquisitely drawn, deeply felt love story that teases out every shadow and nuance of its characters’ inner lives with supreme intelligence’ – Variety.
