Book Week Scotland: Chris Brookmyre and Denise Mina
Monday, 14 November, 2022 6.30 p.m.
(chaired by Tariq Ashkanani)
Chris Brookmyre’s The Cliff House is set on a luxury getaway on a private island where Jen’s hen party is going to be out of control. . .
As well as Jen, there’s the pop diva and the estranged ex-bandmate, the tennis pro and the fashion guru, the embittered ex-sister-in-law and the mouthy future sister-in-law. It’s a combustible cocktail and in the midst of the drunken chaos, one of them disappears. Then a message tells them that unless someone confesses her terrible secret to the others, their missing friend will be killed. Problem is, everybody has a secret. And nobody wants to tell.
In Denise Mina’s Confidence, amateur film-maker Lisa Lee vanishes from a Scottish seaside town and journalists Anna and Fin find themselves at the centre of an internet frenzy to find her. But she may not be the hapless victim everyone thinks she is. The last film she made showed her breaking into an abandoned French chateau and stumbling across a priceless Roman silver casket. The day after Lisa vanishes the casket is listed for auction in Paris, reserve price fifty million euros. But someone doesn’t want them to find the missing girl. . . and will do anything to stop them.
