This brooding, atmospheric murder mystery is set amidst the raw, wintry desolation of Heilongjiang in northern China and tells the story of divorced cop Zhang, who was seriously wounded during a 1999 murder case that ended in death and disgrace. Five years later, he is working as a security guard at a coal factory when an old colleague tells him that similar crimes have been committed and remain unsolved. Zhang decides to begin his own investigation, a decision that leads him through a perplexing neo-noir world as the plot thickens and the sense of dread deepens.
