Join researcher Emma Plant to find out about their research into pollinators
Part of the Friday Focus: The Hunterian’s Online Talks collection
The University of Glasgow’s GALLANT project sees researchers investigating how Glasgow can move towards a climate resilient city. As part of the project, researcher Emma Plant, is studying how our gardens can contribute to important habitat for pollinators.
Last year a total of 58 pollinator species were found in gardens across Glasgow, including two species that were previously unrecorded in the city. In this talk Emma will discuss the details of her project, and how the use of the entomology collection at the Hunterian helped with important discoveries.
Emma Plant a second year PhD student in the University of Glasgow’s School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine. Her research interests include urbanisation and how urban areas impact pollinator ecology, as well as exploring nature-based solutions to help increase pollinator diversity in cities.
The Friday Focus talk programme features a different speaker each week, sharing a deeper insight into University of Glasgow exhibitions and collections and work going on behind the scenes of the museum. Talks are held every Friday at 1pm online over Zoom. Talks are approximately 20 minutes long with time for questions afterwards.
