FrightFest Glasgow 2021 – ‘Vicious Fun’ review Danielle O’Neill Young

Vicious Fun – 5 until 9 March, 2021 Online at FrightFest
Right from the ominous opening scene of a dark, dingy motel parking lot and the score at the start, this film immediately gives off 80’s serial killer vibes.
The characters as they emerge are the perfect stereotypical horror movie mix which quite frankly we all know and love; the loser who comes good, pretty girl, creepy guy, obnoxious guy, knucklehead guy, bumbling cops and bad ass heroine. The 80’s theme continues with nostalgic, humorous abandon and for fans of this genre of horror movie, they will not be disappointed.
Without giving too much away, the concept of the story is clever and adds a nice spin to the film, it isn’t as stereotypical as I initially thought. It is comedic yet still dark enough to satisfy those who like their gore in abundance, particularly one very innovative death scene that delighted this hardcore horror fan.
The usual twists and turns of characters meeting their untimely deaths result, ultimately leading to a satisfying finish. This movie won’t blow your socks off, but is enjoyable and definitely worth a watch.
