Glasgow Film Festival: The County
Friday 28 February, 2020 at 1.15 p.m.
Followed by a Q&A with director Grímur Hákonarson.
If you loved Woman At War (and who didn’t?), then you will want to see The County. Arndís Hrönn Egilsdóttir is outstanding as Inga, a careworn dairy farmer struggling to survive in a small Icelandic community. Her husband’s death is a devastating blow but subsequent revelations leave her determined to wage a crusade against a powerful local co-operative that stifles competition and dissent. Inga’s plan to rock the boat transforms her from mild-mannered farmer to an enemy of the people. A hugely atmospheric crowdpleaser that will have you cheering the indomitable underdog.
