Remember Us + Ismail, CCA
30 March, 2018 – 6.30 p.m.
Commemorate Land Day with two films from emerging female directors of the Palestinian diaspora. Remember Us is a genre bending documentary and Ismail is a period drama about family.
This screening is a fundraising event for an independent Scottish documentary about sport in Palestine.
Remember Us (2015)
UK Premier
Portugal / Jordan 77 minutes
Arabic language / English subtitles
Written by Dalia Abuzeid & Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues
Produced by Frederico Beja & Hamza Barhameyah
Directed by Dalia Abuzeid
Dalia Abuzeid’s Remember Us unveils the stories of a forgotten, stateless, Jordanian minority: Palestinian refugees from Gaza. Five inspiring stories explore the question: what if you were born a refugee to a country you’ve never seen? Abuzeid’s mesmerising documentary is striking and cinematically bold.
Ismail (2013)
Jordan / Palestine / Qatar / United Kingdom 28 minutes
Arabic language / English subtitles
Written by Hatem Alsharif
Produced by Ana Moreno & Abdelsalam Akkad
Directed by Nora Alsharif
Nora Alsharif’s Ismail screened at Cannes 2014 to critical acclaim and receives only its second cinematic presentation in the UK. Inspired by the life of distinguished Palestinian painter Ismail Shammout Alsharif’s patient semi-realist film spends a remarkable day in the life of Ismail, as he hustles to support his family.
We hope director Dalia Abuzeid will join us on the day to discuss her film in person. Director Nora Alsharif will join us by video to discuss her film.
All tickets are £9 + £1 booking fee and include a copy of the documentary film Resistance Recipes, packaged with a bespoke collection of Palestinian cooking recipes. This will be available for collection at the event.
