White: Live at Queen Margaret Union, 20 February, 2016 – review by Calum Maclean
White live at QMU, University of Glasgow, 20/02/16
For a group embarking on their first headline UK tour, Glaswegian five piece White displayed no nerves during their blistering forty five minute set last night. I arrived at the show familiar with five songs, Future Pleasures, Private Lives, Blush, Be the Unknown and Living Fiction, but was hugely impressed with how anthemic they already sound in the live setting. What was all the more impressive was how seamlessly their new material fit with these established singles.
Unfortunately I missed the titles of most of the new tracks but on first listen, and observing the crowd reaction, which was almost universal dancing, when the time comes for White to record their debut album their thrilling mix of post punk, funk and disco will spur any listeners on to nights of willing debauchery. Or, as the guy standing behind me eloquently remarked, “Perfect soundtrack to a pre bev.”
White are:
Leo Condie – Lead vocals
Hamish Fingland – Guitar
Chris Potter – Guitar
Lewis Andrew – Bass
Kirstin Lynn – Drums
Featuring a Sax cameo from Tom Brogan on the night.
