The People’s Film Collective set to screen iconic films in unusual spaces in Glasgow
The People’s Film Collective have announced they will screen the era defining film Trainspotting, 20 years to the day since it’s first release in 1996. The screening will take place in Glasgow’s converted church venue, Saint Luke’s on 23rd February.
Created with a DIY spirit, The People’s Film Collective is a brand new event brought to you by the team behind Tenement TV, screening cult classic films in unusual spaces.
Much more than just a night out at the cinema, there’ll be a Trainspotting Q+A and live entertainment in addition to the feature presentation, with ticket prices less than a regular trip to the city cinema at £5 (plus booking fee).
The People’s Film Collective said: “We want to put on great events, bringing together like-minded people for the love of film and music and with a desire to experience something unique.”
They continued: “We’re a film club with a difference. We aim to celebrate Pop Culture and inspired artistic vision and what better way to start than by screening Trainspotting which combines both so powerfully. It’s a film which really captures the spirit of what The People’s Film Collective is all about.
Despite being set in Edinburgh, 30 of the 50 Trainspotting scenes were shot in the then derelict Wills’ Cigarette Factory on Alexandra Parade, Glasgow. That location is just one mile from the screening in the East End of the city, making it a perfect spot to celebrate two decades of one of the most iconic films in a generation.
