After being closed for over a year for refurbishment, the Grosvenor Cinema will open its doors to the public at 5pm on Friday, 28th November, 2003. The G1 Group, responsible for this project, now number the Grosvenor among their other prestigious and elegant establishments such as the Corinthian (formerly The High Court) and Gong (formerly the Salon Cinema). Despite the clear ability of the G1 Group to sensitively restore important architectural and historical buildings, there has been high anxiety in the West End about the refurbishment of the Grosvenor. Well, we can start to relax as it looks as though the project has been a great success also it will be just fantastic to have a cinema in the West End once again.
Angus Lawrie, Director of Marketing with the G1 Group, gave Jim a tour of the new Grosvenor; he was very impressed and as you can see by his photographs it looks quite wonderful - and very comfortable.
The venue now boasts two luxury cinema screens with opulent leather seating, comfy sofas for two to share, state of the art projection and sound equipment and stunning contemporary surroundings.
This two screen cinema will show all the best mainstream and arthouse films every day. Customers can receive weekly programme details by e-mail by registering at www.g1group.co.uk. Look out for the Saturday Morning Brat Pack Kids Club coming soon.
In 2001, when G1 Group purchased the cinema, they uncovered an unused floor located above the old cinema screens. This space had been hidden from view for the past four decades and contained some wonderful architectural features in need of major attention. This space has now been painstakingly refurbished to house The Loft Bar and Restaurant and will be open to the public every day, serving delicious food and drinks in casual, family friendly surroundings.
In addition, filmgoers will now be able to enjoy a relaxing drink in The Lane Cafe/Bar located on the Ground Floor adjacent to the cinema box office and overlooking the bustle of Ashton Lane, before or after watching the movie of their choice.
