Glasgow's Art Fair will celebrate its 10th year, running from 28th April till 2nd May, 2005. Art Galleries from throughout the UK and other countries will present the work of around 1000 artists. There is indeed something for everyone with a wide range of contemporary work sitting alongside work by prominent artists. You can choose to take a chance investing in something new that catches your eye or sink a fortune into a 19th century masterpiece. Or just browse around lapping up the atmosphere and wonderful display of talent.
We spend an hour or so there every year and it is a very interesting way to pass a lazy Sunday afternoon. After perusing the art, brushing shoulders with enthusiasts and collectors, you can enjoy a drink or have a snack in the pleasant cafe/bar. Where even the flowers on the tables are artistically presented.
This year the The Art Fair will be part of Glasgow International - a new festival of contemporary visual art, which celebrates the continuing growth of visual arts in Glasgow. This new venture starts today, 21st April and will run until 2nd May. It will include different visual arts venues, both indoors and outdoors, showcasing Scottish talent and the work of International artists in the city. It will include: the work of Barabara Kruger, the iconic American artist, the Jumex Collection from Mexico and Neil Mulholland's Campbell's Soup Exhibition.
You can visit all the venue with SPIN, who offer free guided bus tours running throughout the festival. Their Programme Co-ordinator will escort you on a whirlwind tour of different visual arts venues, where you can view the art, talk to the artists and meet curators.
