Nathan (Asa Butterfield) has always been socially awkward, finding solace in the rational purity of mathematics. After encouragement from his tutor Mr Humphreys (Rafe Spall) and his loving mother Julie (Sally Hawkins), he lands a spot on the British team for the International Mathematics Olympiad. A training trip to Taiwan is the beginning of an incredible journey as Nathan discovers friends, a new-found sense of confidence and learns that there may be more to life than prime numbers. Understated, beautifully acted and completely wonderful.
