Pearl and the Puppets Classic Grand 12th February 2010

Photo: pearl and the puppets. Review by P.A. Keightley

Pearl sings of the 'Mango Tree' and 'Because I Do' and her songs have a subtle yet uplifting energy, while her vocal with its smooth, rich tones is caressing and draws you in. She and her Puppets make a very tight band who look as though they enjoy being on stage playing their carchy tunes and performing a very polished set.

The band consists of singer songwriter Katie Sutherland aka Pearl (vocals/guitar), Blair McMillan (drums legend ), Gordon Turner (guitar), Scott Clark (bass) and Michael Abubakar (keyboard and legend ). Her music has been described as a being similar to that of Regina Spector and Dolores O'Riordan. Pearl has eyes that speak of mischief and fun - as do her songs.

Over the past year Pearl and the Puppets have been playing at festivals and venues throughout Scotland. She will release her first single - 'Because I Do' in March 2010. Last year the band supported Elton John at the SECC and big things are expected. The band signed to Universal and headlined the Solus Tent at the Wikerman Festival Scotland. Their song "Because I Do" was featured on a Vodaphone advertisement in Australia and New Zealand.
