Valentine Day at Glasgow Film Theatre 2023
Tuesday 14 February, 2023
GFT, 12 Rose Street, Glasgow G3 6RB
Celebrate Valentine’s Day at Glasgow Film Theatre showcasing two of GFT’s all-time favourite love stories. Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or looking for an escape, they’ve got you covered with the heartbreakingly beautiful Portrait of a Lady on Fire which will be playing alongside Richard Linklater‘s unconventional indie romance Before Sunrise.
Marking the beginning of an 18 year collaboration between director Richard Linklater and actors Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, this unconventional indie romance follows two strangers — American tourist Jesse and French student Céline — as they embark on an evening of passionate conversation in the streets of Vienna.
Before Sunrise (6 p.m.)
Before Sunrise is the first in the Before… trilogy which follows the relationship of Jesse and Celine across three nine-year intervals. Beautifully performed, directed and filmed, Before Sunset is the first chapter in Linklater’s timeless, funny and insightful study of love, time and connection.

Portrait of a Lady On Fire at 8.10p.m.
In late 18th century France, painter Marianne (Noémie Merlant) is commissioned by an affluent countess to paint the portrait of her sheltered but headstrong daughter Héloïse (Adèle Haenel), in the hope it will find her a wealthy husband.
While posing as her hired companion, Marianne is instructed to complete the portrait in secret, observing Héloïse by day and painting her by night. However, as the two women grow closer, their intimacy and attraction begins to blossom, paving the way for a simmering, star-crossed romance.
All tickets £6.50.
