The Swimmer, GFT
24 – 26 June, 2018
Frank Perry’s strange and stylized adaptation of the John Cheever short story is as affecting as when it was first released 50 years ago. One summer morning in an affluent Connecticut suburb, Ned Merrill (Burt Lancaster) decides to “swim” home via the pools of his wealthy friends. Along the way Ned encounters several women from his past, in a progressively tragic journey of embarrassments, humiliation and steamy passion. He passes from one scenario to another until he arrives home to an empty house and a startling self-revelation…
