The Lighthouse, GFT
31 January – 13 February, 2020
Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind modern horror masterpiece The Witch, directs this hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s. Trapped on the island due to a storm, the men become increasingly desperate as their stark and haunted surroundings drive them to madness. Unforgettable images and queasy sound design combine to thoroughly unsettling effect, while Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson deliver crazed performances with more than a hint of humour about them. A disturbing and unique sea shanty of a film.
