The Escape, GFT
10 – 16 August, 2018
Gemma Arterton just gets better and better, delivering a commanding performance of unwavering conviction in The Escape. Playing a dutiful, careworn wife and mother to two daughters, she is advised to count her blessings rather than question a life that increasingly feels like a crushing weight on her shoulders. Husband Mark (Dominic Cooper) is too shallow to contemplate that there could be something wrong with their seemingly perfect existence. Is this what she really wants? It is a life of quiet desperation, which director, Dominic Savage, contemplates with an unflinching eye. GFF18
