Stan and Ollie, GFT
12 – 24 January, 2-19
Peek behind the scenes at two of cinema’s most enduring icons in this delightful and touching comedy. Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly give spot-on performances as Laurel and Hardy, with equally impressive support from Shirley Henderson and Nina Arianda as their chalk and cheese wives. The film follows the two stars on a theatres tour of the UK in 1953, with their 30s cinema heyday increasingly far behind them. Stan is hard at work on a new film script and is eager to begin production, but cracks are beginning to show in their relationship. Filled with affectionate nods to the duo’s masterful physical comedy, this is a warm, funny and poignant tribute.
