Song of Granite, GFT
16 – 21 December, 2017
Ireland’s selection for best foreign-language film at the 2018 Academy Awards, acclaimed filmmaker Pat Collins (Silence) brings the dramatic true story of legendary sean nós (old style) singer Joe Heaney to the screen in a fittingly lyrical film, largely in Gaelic dialogue. Weaving traditional narrative episodes with documentary footage and musical performances, Song of Granite offers a complete, unflinching portrait of the man and the country that made him, and celebrates the traditional Irish music Joe Heaney created.
