Under the Shadow Tuesday 27 September, 2016 GFT

A horror story that is as smart as it is scary.
Tuesday 27 September (20.25)
Running time: 1h24m
Tehran, 1988: Shideh lives amid the chaos of the Iran-Iraq war. She is blacklisted from medical school due to her political history and her husband is away at war, leaving her alone to take care for their young daughter, Dorsa. As the war worsens, Dorsa becomes increasingly ill and seemingly disturbed, leading Shideh to believe that her daughter is possessed by malevolent spirits known as Djinns. Babak Anvari’s ambitious first feature blends social critique with a good old-fashioned horror story that is as smart as it is scary. Followed by a Q&A with director Babak Anvari and actor Narges Rashidi.
