Queen and Slim, GFT

31 January – 6 February, 2020
A couple’s first date takes an unexpected turn when a police officer pulls them over. Forced to hit the road, they unwittingly become a symbol of trauma, terror, grief and pain for African Americans across the USA. With a propulsive narrative reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde, Queen & Slim is a chase story, a romance and a state of the nation movie all at once. A confident debut from director Melina Matsoukas, it is a beautiful, powerful and thoroughly modern black love story.
The Friday 31 January (20.00) screening will be introduced by independent filmmaker Stewart Kyasimire.
