GFT, 12 Rose Street
Friday 12–Thursday 25 September
Inspired by the true story of pioneering gay campaigners in Margaret Thatcher’s Britain, Pride is a heartwarming drama starring Dominic West and Bill Nighy. Set during the miners’ strike of 1984, two very different communities declare solidarity when a group of gay and lesbian activists raise money to support the workers and families of a Welsh mining village. A moving portrayal of the people who were unafraid to stand up for their rights, Pride pays tribute to a triumphant moment in recent British history.
The screening on Mon 15 Sep (17.40) will be introduced by Dr Nessa Johnston, lecturer at Glasgow School of Art, as part of our Contemporary Cinema Course.
