Paula Ryans Images of the Winter Gardens 2018
“On this occasion, I visited the People’s Palace in May of 2018 with my then teenage sons. Growing up in Kirkintilloch, with parents from Springburn and Auchinairn, I was often at the People’s Palace and Winter Gardens, I even had a Smudge the cat badge. Now I live closer to Edinburgh, I wanted my sons to see the place where I had such fond memories. The People’s Palace was more about the actual people of Glasgow, especially the often overlooked working class. The Winter Gardens full of interesting plants protected inside a beautiful building.
My mum spoke about Springburn having a Winter Gardens too, sad that this had closed. Such a shame that the People’s Palace hasn’t received the love and attention needed, it is so important for the history and culture of Glasgow.
I wish you all the best in the campaign and look forward to visiting the People’s Palace and Winter Gardens when they return.
With best wishes,
Paula “
