Life is Dance at GFT
Thursday 13 November, 2025
UK Premiere of award-winning documentary by Havana Glasgow Festival Directors Eirene Houston and Hugo Rivalta which follows the stories of six main protagonists, across three generations. These are ordinary Cubans with one thing in common – their love of dance. Marta and Félix are nostalgic for the dance halls of old but still dance whenever they can. Damaris and Gusmel are leaders of a small town dance group and it means everything to them to win the annual dance competition. Teenagers Lachy and Dayan would love to be professional dancers, if only they could just dance reggaeton and not have to learn the ‘old people’s dances.’ Full colour and music, disappointment and joy, we join these charismatic characters on their journey.
Preceded by short film Kimera (2024) by Yoel Infante and Alejandro Valera
Painting a tender portrait of a Cuban boy whose dreams fill his world with joy, we join him as economic shortages and family obligations pull his dreams further and further away.Mirroring the lives of many children across Cuba today, Valera’s powerful short encapsulates the importance of cinematic storytelling.
The screening will be followed by Q&A with moderator Libby McArthur, directors Eirene Houston and Hugo Rivalta and music arranger, Pete Wiggs (Saint Etienne).
Films will be screened in Spanish with English subtitles.
Access Info:
Films will be close captioned and the intro and Q&A will have Live Captioning and BSL interpretation
