Lids Open Day – Spring 2023
Friday May 5th 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Recital Room, City Halls, 100 Candleriggs, Merchant City, Glasgow, G1 1NQ
A little known gem of a piano
If you have never heard or played the Steinway Concert Grand in the Recital Room, then you are in for a treat. It is 15 yrs since Glasgow became a UNESCO City of Music and 10 years since Glasgow Piano City piano shenanigans started life at the 2013 ‘Festival of the Piano’ with a pre~’Play Me I’m Yours‘ tour of the city with 2 decorated pianos and the first lids open days in the Grand Hall and the Recital Room at City Halls, Glasgow’s oldest purpose built performance space ( 1841 ).
This event is being held to celebrate these anniversaries and to offer a big thank you to Glasgow Life for supporting the return to the Recital Room in 2023.
Registration is necessary for this event
Please register by Email ( including a contact phone number and the time you intend to arrive ) You may well not get that exact time, though it will be close.
This event aims to be informal and yet somehow still run to schedule with not too much waiting time. Friends and family are welcome as always, with some fine players attending to listen to. You will all get 12 mins, though please take a breath and resist the overwhelming urge to cram in as many tunes as you can. It is a rare opportunity to play a concert gran of this quality and worth slowing down for.
