Le Bonheur, GFT
12 and 13 September, 2018
Deemed provocative and sparking controversy upon release, Varda’s Le Bonheur stars Jean-Claude Drouout as married man François, alongside his off-screen wife and children. François lives a comfortable and fulfilling life, but finds himself drawn to Emilie (Marie-France Boyer), the post office clerk. Varda’s resonant drama explores monogamy and the consequences of the pursuit of personal fulfilment, and exposes hypocrisy and the fairness of gender relations in family life.
