Kim Carnie, Scots singer songwriter review by Pauline Keightley

Glasgow Concert Hall

Charming with her soft, mesmerising voice Kim Carnie was the support artist to Duncan Chisholm and was backed by the strings and piano and Megan Henderson on vocals and violin.

She performed Gaelic heritage songs from her 2022 album And So We Gather written during lockdown. The song Chan Eil A’ Chuis was based on the work of a female bard, a hymn of the morning light and was backed with only piano, beautiful.

Carnie has written new compositions for her album – with the Festival’s artistic director Donald Shaw producing – And So We Gather and She Moves Me. She has a bubbly personality and it would be good to hear more like songs like her upbeat, infectious final song – Nighearn sin Thall.  The Gaelic song is ever popular with Celtic Connections’ audiences, which she performed with her clear tones and poignant songs. More please!
