Ismael’s Ghosts, GFT
18 and 19 June, 2018
Just before he is about to start shooting his new film, director Ismael (Mathieu Amalric) finds his life turned upside down by the reappearance of his wife Carlotta (Marion Cotillard), who vanished without trace 20 years ago. Carlotta’s presence brings confusion and chaos, throwing Ismael’s tentative new romance with Sylvia (Charlotte Gainsbourg) into question, and sending his life into a tailspin. Arnaud Desplechin’s hypnotic drama revels in multilayered storytelling, with the film Ismael is making providing a film-within-the-film that echoes his fragmenting reality.
