If Beale Sreet Could Talk at GFT

Based on the 1974 novel by James Baldwin, If Beale Street Could Talkis the story of Tish, a newly engaged young woman in Harlem, and her artist fiancé Alonzo ‘Fonny’ Hunt. When Fonny is arrested for a crime he did not commit, Tish races against the clock to prove her lover’s innocence while carrying their first born child to term.
Directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), If Beale Street CouldTalk is a celebration of love told through the story of a young couple, their families and their lives as they try to bring about justice.
