Holy Spider at Glasgow Film Theatre
20 – 26 January, 2023
A journalist (Zar Amir-Ebrahimi) descends into the dark underbelly of the Iranian holy city of Mashhad as she investigates the serial killings of sex workers by the so called ‘Spider Killer’, who believes he is cleansing the streets of sinners.
Telling a chilling story based on true events that took place in Mashhad between 2000 and 2001, Holy Spider shines a light on an intensely patriarchal society which is currently experiencing nationwide protests under the ‘Women, Life, Freedom,’ movement.
