Ranked at number six on Sight and Sound’s Greatest Films of All Time list, Stanley Kubrick’s sublime masterpiece is regularly cited as one of the finest pieces of science fiction ever made. Scripted by Kubrick and famed writer Arthur C Clarke, the film follows a representative of mankind sent into space to trace the origins of a mysterious object, with the help of advanced supercomputer HAL 9000.
Charting the birth and evolution of mankind, as well as our interactions with technology and extra-terrestrial life, this is a unique, beguiling and cerebral film that truly deserves to be seen on the big screen.
Almost incomprehensibly massive, not just in its scope and scale but in its ideas and philosophies. It’s a genre movie asking the biggest of questions and it has a scary computer to boot.
