Glasgow Jazz Festival

Celebrate International Jazz Day and experience the best of Scottish, UK and International talent in venues around the city this summer. The festival will feature over 100 incredible artists and 25+ events  in a week of unforgettable jazz performances.

Hyndland record store Second Line Records will be sponsoring award-winning London tuba player and composer Theon Cross’ event when he returns to Glasgow with his Trio. They’ll be collaborating with Scottish drummer Graeme Costello  – Òran Mór, Saturday 21st June.

Genre defying instrumental collective Fat-Suit will pay tribute to the golden age of video game music at Òran Mór on Thursday 19th June. From Zelda to Final Fantasy, Mario Kartto Sonic the Hedgehog, this one-off show reimagines iconic soundtracks through the bands signature blend of jazz, folk, funk and electronics.

Beyond Borders commission with Serious, London, will make its Scottish debut at the festival. The performance from members of the Take Five flagship talent development programme for emerging jazz and improvising musicians will feature the likes of Scottish singer Lulu Manning, Xhosa Cole, Conor McAuley and Claire Victoria Roberts.

Scotland’s next generation of jazz stars will take to the stage with the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra on Friday 21st June. Led by the great Tommy Smith, they’ll be showcasing their talents at Òran Mór.Second Line Records will also be sponsoring Scottish saxophonist Matt Carmichael’s show as he performs his most ambitious work to date – Dancing with Embers. Matt’s distinctive, powerfully emotive blend of jazz and folk music will be on display on Thursday 19th June.
