Glasgow gigs: Ian Sherwood and Scott MacDonald Woodend Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club, Wednesday 14 May
Ian Sherwood and Scott MacDonald
Wednesday 14th May
Sounds in the Suburbs
Woodend Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club
One of the great things about putting on gigs at Woodend is being able to put on some of my favourite acts and enjoy their performances at close quarters. The other great thing is finding new acts and over the years we have seen some remarkable debuts at the Club. So I’m delighted that on Wednesday the 14th we have another great performer making his debut and not one to be missed. Ian Sherwood from Canada is a multi-award winning artist, a musician, a story teller and a constant creator. He has penned tunes for many other artists as well as theatre, film and television, but his passion remains primarily for his unique brand of folk/pop music.
He’s nominated for a 2013 Canadian Folk Music Award, was named Male Artist of the Year by the 2012 International Acoustic Music Awards and was the 2008 and 2010 Music Nova Scotia Musician of the Year. Bob Mersereau of CBC Radio, Fredericton described him as “… a natural performer who entertains as much with his wit and stories as with his songs.”
Starting his music career as an in-demand saxophone player in Toronto, Sherwood soon began looking for an outlet for his poetic side. His unique musicianship combined with his tales of heart-break, victory and adventure quickly gained him recognition as a solid performer, lyricist and player. This led to a nomination for the 2011 ECMA award for Male Solo Artist Recording of the Year.
“Live at The Hive” is the latest musical creation from this prolific broken-heart. His energetic stage presence and honesty truly captures the essence of what has made Ian so popular with his audience.
“… impressive guitar work amid catchy hook lines galore, surely the main thought in the room was, “Yep. It’s only a matter of time before he’s a household name.””
— Todd MacLean, Charlottetown Guardian

Also delighted that Scott MacDonald will now also play this night. Great to have Scott back at Woodend, where he’s played many times including at the fantastic Jackie Leven tribute night.
