Glasgow Film Theatre Programme for April 2026
Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) – the city’s home of cinema for over 85 years – has revealed its programme for April.
Seasons and Festivals

Cinemasters
GFT’s popular CineMasters programme celebrates directors and key figures from filmmaking history. It returns in April with a season celebrating the contemporary Australian auteur, Baz Luhrmann. The season brings together Luhrmann’s ‘Red Curtain Trilogy’ — Strictly Ballroom (1992), Romeo + Juliet (1996) and Moulin Rouge! (2001) — offering a rare chance to experience all three on the big screen, alongside his first documentary, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2025. The screening of Moulin Rouge! on Monday 9 April will be introduced by composer Craig Armstrong, who won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for his work on the film.
Sound and Vision Programme

April is the month of the music documentary at GFT, with the return of the cinema’s regular Sound and Vision programme presenting two new films that showcase epic musical talent on the big screen. Using never-before-seen footage, exclusive voice messages, and accounts from those closest to him, It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley presents a portrait of the captivating singer whose rise to fame was cut short by his sudden death in 1997.

Broken English
Collaborative documentary Broken English presents an unorthodox portrait of rock icon Marianne Faithfull, who died midway through the project, featuring appearances from friends and collaborators including Nick Cave and Courtney Love.
Coen Brothers of the Month

the ladykillers
GFT’s long-running Coen Brothers of the Month season returns in April with a special screening of the duo’s remake of the 1955 Ealing classic The Ladykillers. The April screening in the cinema’s Queer Cinema Sundays programme will be the German queer classic, Mädchen in Uniform.
Special screenings

Palestine comedy club
GFT will welcome a range of special guests for Q&As throughout April, including Underland director Rob Petit (Sunday 12 April); Palestine Comedy Club producer Charlotte Knowles (Sunday 19 April); Our Land director Orban Wallace alongside Right to Roam campaigner Nadia Shaikh (Friday 24 April); and The North director Bart Schrijver (Sunday 26 April).

ex machina
On Thursday 30 April, a special screening of Alex Garland’s Ex Machina will be followed by a Q&A with University of Glasgow Philosophy/Education PhD candidate Michael Quinn, who will consider the film as a route to engaging in philosophical explorations of attention and technology.
The National Theatre Live production of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, directed by Ivo Van Hove (A View from the Bridge) and starring Bryan Cranston and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, will screen at GFT on Thursday 16 April.
Borscht Film Club, a community-driven initiative showcasing Polish cinema, will present a special screening of the powerful coming-of-age drama Brat (Brother), on Wednesday 29 April.
As part of Glasgow Film Festival’s Animatic Talent Lab, Animated Wednesdays is a quarterly screening series celebrating the world of animation and the growth of Scotland’s animation sector. It returns to GFT in April with a showcase of outstanding animated short films from filmmakers based in Scotland and Los Angeles.
