Glasgow Film Festival 2020: Simple Women presented by Femspectives
29 February, 2020
Ambitious yet graceless film director Federica (Jasmine Trinca) has only ever had one obsession: cinema. One film in particular has always proved a particular inspiration: Hal Hartley’s Simple Men, where her obsession with Romanian actor Elina Löwensohn began. So when the opportunity to make a film about Elina, with Elina in the title role, she jumped at the chance. However, as she discovers her hero might not be as idyllic as once thought, the line begins to blur between art and reality. Shades of Synecdoche, New York with a feminist perspective, Simple Women is an innovative and funny debut.
