Sun 9 February 2014

The Grand Gestures make their only live appearance supporting their new album Second. Jan Burnett serves up the music, while the vocals are provided, from amongst others; Emma Pollock, Sanjeev Kohli, Jill O’Sullivan, Calamateur, Pauline Alexander, Calamity Horse and Celie Byrne – a rare outing indeed.
MWM play electro-indie-synth-pop which has been compared to acts as diverse as the Human League and Pavement. They released their debut album ‘The Kreuzberg Press’ recently, which received excellent reviews. This is MWM’s Glasgow debut.
This double bill features 2 members of indie-lo fi legends Spare Snare. Jan Burnett is creator of The Grand Gestures and Adam Lockhart of Man Without Machines.
”This idea is brilliant: founding member Jan Burnett writes music, gets others to add vocals, then invites them round to record straight to tape, with a curry thrown in for good measure, The Grand Gestures is unique”
(5/5) Artrocker (on The Grand Gestures)
“Their mash-up of 1980s electro-pop and post-punk guitar also makes sure that the melodies hit home on each and every track”
