Cottier Chamber Project Summer 2013
With descriptions ranging from ‘the music of friends’ to ‘four men in a room, conversing rationally’, it’s easy to see why chamber music is so powerful! It’s where ideas are thrown around, examined, rejected and approved…where emotions of every type are worn on the sleeve…where musicians can speak for themselves, communicating with their colleagues and with the audience.
Now in its third year, The Cottier Chamber Project is part of Glasgow’s West End Festival, and features an astonishingly varied line up of ensembles and repertoire. Based in the stunning Cottier’s Theatre, with its newly restored interior decoration by Daniel Cottier, the concerts are an hour in length and feature an intriguing mix of popular, unusual and unjustly neglected works.
In partnership with Glasgow Life, the opening weekend is a farewell to the Pavel Haas Quartet, who end their 3-year residency in the city with 3 days of concerts featuring some of their favourite pieces and musicians.
Another collaboration, with the University of Glasgow, is a lunchtime series that makes a chronological sweep through Western chamber music, with each concert providing a snapshot of music from a 100 year period.
Away from the chamber music series, the West End Festival as a whole sees the whole area in party-mode, with theatre, dance, music of every genre, literature, art and heritage programmes taking place in every building imaginable!
