CHEEKY BESOM PRODUCTIONS ‘Artists With Attitude’ Presents

Memoir Writing – ‘The Siren Awakes’ with Linda Jackson
Creative Writing lecturer, Linda Jackson will share how to fine tune your writing skills.
SAVE THE DATE: The contemporary memoir is a form of autobiography and, memoir like fiction, relies on literary tools such as character development, vivid scenes, structure, and plot to craft a compelling storyline and produce an evocative, page-turning manuscript. The more we know about how fiction works and where those techniques can be applied to factual material, the better able we are to create a nuanced story. We all have stories to tell and we know writing a novel takes commitment. If you’re looking for inspiration on how to write a powerful memoir that will engage readers, Creative Writing lecturer, Linda Jackson is sharing how to fine tune your writing skills. Jackson will read from and discuss her creative process relating to memoir writing with the launch of her recent publication, The Siren Awakes (Seahorse Publications 2019). Learn tips on how to get started, how to structure stories and how to tackle the idea of authenticity. Jackson will discuss how to make use of narrative structure when writing about true events, why that brings your reader into the tale, and how to present a personal transformative narrative in a compelling way. As a singer, songwriter and creative writing lecturer, Jackson has cultivated cross-fertilisation inspiring both art forms. There will be a Q&A Session at the end of the presentation with interviewer and writer: Lesley Benzie. Books will be available for sale on the night.
LINDA JACKSON: is a singer, songwriter, editor, and creative writing lecturer. She has released four albums performing throughout Scotland, Europe, Australia, and Canada. Calling all Creatives
Following Jackson’s presentation, Cheeky Besom Productions is seeking readers and performers to share their work inspired by the theme, ‘Death & Rebirth’ and it’s open to interpretation. Coming in between Imbolc and Beltane is a time for celebrating the balance between extremes found amid the seasons. The Vernal Equinox unfolds as the sun crosses the equator resulting in longer days and shorter nights as well as warmer weather. The event is deeply rooted in pagan traditions and spiritual rituals and is associated with the concept of death and rebirth. An intense time of purification, balance, renewal and new possibilities. Bring your possibilities! Whatever sparks your imagination, anything goes! Each creative will be given a 5-7 minute slot to be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Slot times will be shared on the night. To secure a slot contact Ruby McCann: mccannruby@gmail.com. Host for the evening is Jim Ferguson.
