“Do you think cos I’ve been in the jail all I know is how to hurt people?”

Every year in Scotland thousands of people return home from prison to an uncertain future. A Giant on the Bridge reveals the intimate human experiences within this prison-homecoming journey, in a
compelling narrative-gig which fuses acoustic songwriting, Scottish hip hop & original storytelling.

Five of Scotland’s leading contemporary musicians explore identity, family, community, systems, restoration, injustice – and the pulsing heartbeat within these hidden stories.

Devised by singer-songwriter Jo Mango & award-winning theatre-maker Liam Hurley with research by Phil Crockett Thomas. Developed through the work of the Distant Voices Community on a research project with people from across the criminal justice system.

A rapper prepares to return home from prison to his fracturing family.
His songbird twin sister makes anxious arrangements for the return – as she cares for his young daughter.

A prison writer in residence wrestles with her own demons, prompted by the trauma within a divided family.

A songwriter’s daily grind brings connective sparks of inspiration Inside.

While in a fairytale kingdom, a misunderstood Giant is about to escape from a dungeon…

The performance on the 25th will be audio described for those who require it.
