The Jackie Marno-McGoldrick Art Prize and Exhibition 2025

The Jackie Marno-McGoldrick Art Prize is an annual student art competition, launched in 2024 it’s open to students from schools in West Dunbartonshire. With £200 worth of art shop vouchers for the competition winner as well as prizes for second and third place the competition aims to keep the legacy of Mrs McGoldrick alive and aims to make art accessible for all.

The JMM Art Prize’s mission is to continue the legacy of Jackie Marno-McGoldrick – an artist and art teacher from Clydebank High School whose mission it was to empower Glasgow’s kids with a creative voice and vision.

All submitted artwork will be on display at The Alchemy Experiment from  31 October – 5 November, 2025. Free entry.

There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in the following categories:

About Jackie Marno-McGoldrick

Jackie Marno-McGoldrick

Jackie Marno-McGoldrick was a passionate artist and art teacher at Clydebank High School, where she dedicated 19 years of her life to helping children across a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds and educational needs.

Feminism and motherhood inspired her early artistic years; taking pride in being a ‘working class bird’, it was her life’s work to make sure every child had a voice and platform to achieve their best.

Undoubtedly there are hundreds of children that have gone on to live amazing, creative lives as a result of having Jackie’s passion and determination to help them. This competition is a way of keeping her legacy going and making sure creative boundaries continue to be pushed and explored in generations to come.

 “Mum studied art and graphic design at Cardonald College and went on to place first in an International Fine Art Awards for Woman Artists in the 1990s. She then studied at Jordanhill College where she became a teacher. From there she went on to work full-time in Clydebank. The job became the love of her life. Some of the children didn’t have much but she gave them a voice and let them be heard. She was so passionate about teaching art and made sure her students had the correct tools to do the best they could. My step-dad David recalls going shopping with her and the trolley would just be full of the best paint brushes, paper, and pens that she would take to school and give to her students. She received an award from her students in 2019 for best teacher which she was really emotional about. This competition is a way of keeping her legacy going and making sure creative boundaries continue to be pushed and explored in generations to come.”

There will be an evening exhibition (invitation only) opening on 31^st October 2025 where the finalists, parents/guardians and teachers (from the participating schools) will be invited to come for an evening and find out who the winners are.  Drinks and nibbles will be served.
