A Kick Up The Arts – Nicola Meighan in conversation with Ambrose Parry at The Stand at Websters
Thursday 11 September, 2025 , 2.30 p.m.
The Stand, 416 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G4 9HZ
To celebrate the legendary Stand in Glasgow moving to its new venue (the old Webster’s Theatre), Nicola Meighan has been invited to bring some guests along for a blether once a month, on a Thursday afternoon.
The first event will see Nicola in conversation with Chris Brookmyre as one half of best-selling crime-writing duo, Ambrose Parry.
Chris published his superb debut, Quite Ugly One Morning, almost thirty years ago – and has been one of our most imaginative, thrilling and entertaining voices ever since. Ambrose Parry sees him joining forces with consultant anaesthetist and writer Dr Marisa Haetzman, to whom he’s also married, for a brilliant and gripping trip across Victorian Edinburgh, medical science and historical fiction, with a keen eye on the experience and (in)equality of women.
Also enthusiastic film and music fans (as attested by Chris’ band with former guest Val McDermid et al, The Fun Loving Crime Writers), Chris and Marisa will chat about their life, and work, and Ambrose Parry series of novels, and they’ll also discuss a favourite Scottish album, film and book (or two).
Come along for a blether, some hand-picked tunes and enjoy an informal, entertaining Glasgow Thursday afternoon.
