Witness to Genocide
Recent photography by Gaza-native photojournalist and Activestills member Mohammed Zaanoun.
The Fourth Wall
New political dioramas and photomontage artwork by Glasgow artist and activist Euan Sutherland.
Under heavy Israeli bombardments, after his house and entire neighbourhood were destroyed, and under explicit threats to his life made by Israeli colonial forces, Mohammed Zaanoun continued documenting the horrors of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza. These images display the destruction of life buried under the rubble, the death of thousands of children and the forced displacement of an entire people. In a reality where Israel both prevents any foreign media from entering, as well as targets and kills Palestinian journalists, Zaanoun’s photos stand as a testimony for the world to see and for us to act.
In direct response to the recent months of horror in Gaza, Euan Sutherland’s work also looks back at the legacy of (and continuing) brutality inflicted on the Palestinian people throughout the years, where imposed removal, segregation and imprisonment, continues alongside destruction of infrastructure, land theft and many other human rights violations. Countering the western default perspective of victim blaming, that often ignores the realities, falsifies the facts and doubles down on hypocritical posturing, Sutherland hints at the growing opposition to this and a growing groundswell of unrest.
Pulling back the curtain of propaganda…
