10 Things I Hate About You at GFT

14 February, 2022 at 6.15 p.m.
This special Valentine’s Day screening of the classic 1990s romcom will include an introduction from the GFT Youth Board.
The Stratford sisters’ father has one rule: popular Bianca can date only when her antisocial and angry sister Kat does. When Bianca recruits school newcomer Cameron to find a date for her sister, they never expected her to actually like the strange and mysterious Patrick Verona.
Witty and fun, this modern twist on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew has a stellar cast led by Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles.
Why we love it:
‘Kat refuses to cater to what everyone else in her life wants from and for her. She leads her life on her own agenda, never to please anyone else. She believes her opinion of herself is the most important one, and she couldn’t be more right. Kat refuses to give in to misogynistic and patriarchal views that everyone around her has. She was a feminist before we started to see them regularly in teen films, and to this day remains one of the most influential and badass women in film.’ – Isobel, GFT Youth Board
