Licorice Pizza at Glasgow Film Theatre

Tracking the treacherous navigation of first love, the film tells the story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine as they grow up, run around and fall in love in the San Fernando Valley in 1973. The young couple are played by Alana Haim from the band Haim and Cooper Hoffman, son of Philip Seymour Hoffman, both in their first feature film roles.
Why we love it:
‘Sweet, funny, warm; this is Paul Thomas Anderson’s most heartfelt movie, yet it still retains enough oddball touches to make it distinctly ‘PTA’. In two amazing debut performances, Haim and Hoffman give the film a youthful, optimistic perspective that is totally infectious. Featuring hilarious cameos from Sean Penn, Bradley Cooper and Tom Waits as typically ’70s Hollywood figures, Licorice Pizza reminded me of American Graffiti in the way it just follows its characters wherever they lead the story.
