Glasgow Film Festival – Rosa’s Wedding review by Pat Byrne
UK Premiere at Glasgow Film Festival 2021 Online, 5 – 8 March, 2021
Rosa’s wedding is a delightful film. Perfect if you feel taken for granted, have unfulfilled dreams or perhaps think it’s time for some self-love.
Rosa (Candela Peña) is turning 45 and is going to change her life. She’s making plans to follow in her dead mother’s footsteps and reopen her clothes shop in Benicassim, a small Spanish beach town. Rosa is leaving Valencia, where she is constantly at the beck and call of her family. No more. Rosa has decided that it’s time for some self-love – she’s making a bid for freedom, following her dream and going to sell the beautiful clothes she creates. And she’s going to get married – to herself!
The plot seems somewhat ludicrous but Icíar Bollaín (Director) has created a credible, delightful and humorous film. The smile will never be far from your lips and you will laugh a lot.
Rosa’s Wedding is a perfect feel-good film with a message and we can all learn from Rosa’s determination to make the most of life.
