Hitler’s Hollywood, GFT

Rüdiger Suchsland’s film takes a closer look at the thousand feature films made in Germany between 1933 and 1945, examining how stereotypes of the enemy and values of love and hate managed to be planted into the heads of the German people, through the cinema screens.
While these German films, produced during the Nazi regime, were technically proficient, their content was intended as pure escapism — propaganda that brainwashed a nation, using images of beauty and nature to lay the ground-work for horrors to come.
Screening as part of Fokus: Films from Germany season, a partnership between Goethe-Institut (Glasgow) and Filmhouse (Edinburgh).
